Advanced Sequence Stratigraphic Applications for Exploration and Development
Sunday, 28 September – Monday, 29 September 2025, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. | Brazil
Course Content
This advanced stratigraphy course provides a deep dive into sequence and seismic stratigraphy, equipping participants with the expertise needed to analyze and interpret stratigraphic frameworks across different scales and depositional environments. The course covers advanced methods for recognizing Composite Sequences, Sequence Sets, and Depositional Sequences using outcrops, cores, well logs, and seismic data. Participants will learn interpretation and mapping techniques applicable across the exploration and production business stages, focusing on integrating multiple datasets to refine subsurface models. Special emphasis will be placed on recognizing key stratigraphic surfaces and their implications for reservoir distribution and hydrocarbon prospectivity.
Building on these fundamentals, the course explores play element recognition and mapping strategies in non-marine, shallow-marine, and deep-marine settings, highlighting their relevance to both conventional and unconventional resource plays. Participants will examine the role of sequence stratigraphy in unconventional reservoirs, understanding how stratigraphic controls influence reservoir quality and producibility. The training will also cover play fairway analysis, guiding attendees through the identification of high-potential areas using sequence stratigraphic principles. The course concludes with a focus on reservoir geometry and connectivity, providing insights into optimizing reservoir characterization and development strategies.
Who Should Attend: Geology and Geophysics professionals and students with basic understanding of Sequence Stratigraphy that want to apply the method in exploration and production.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of geology
